Wise Owl Life Hack…

Words By Laticia Gibson, MBB Founderlet_it_go

WE ARE ALL FACED WITH CHALLENGES ON A DAILY BASIS… Challenges with work, our partners, children and loved ones… some things we have control over, most, we don’t.

About a year ago, I was blessed to hear the teachings of a Buddhist monk who was visiting Canberra. He said one thing that CHANGED MY LIFE forever – and I don’t say that lightly…

You see, I used to suffer from deep anxiety. The kind that would only allow me to sleep just 2-3 hours a night. I would conjure up all sorts of stories… Stories of the future, of the past, of conversations that would never be… My mind convinced me that these things were reality – even though it was far from the truth. They made my brain hurt, my heart weep and my soul cry for mercy.

These stories damaged relationships, they damaged my mind, destroyed beautiful moments and worst of all, it prevented me from ever being present – from ever feeling happiness and enjoying the blessings in my life.

I was committed to destroying every bit of joy for fear it would end. Where is the sense in that, I ask?

But as I talk to more of you, I hear stories that resemble mine. We want to control the past and future… We catastrophise, we make out that every ‘bad thing’ that happens in our lives is a punishment. That the universe has set out to break us. That we are alone and we will never be truly happy ‘until….’

Let me tell you this, the world is not out to get you. Sometimes, shitty things happen. Sometimes shitty things happen for a reason… to protect and guide us.. to make us stronger, to feel pain so we can empathise and change lives of others experiencing similar pain. Sometimes shitty things happen and we will never know why…

Rather than stressing about things you can’t control, use this practical tool that I was taught one year ago… it will change your life…

When faced with a challenge, ask yourself “Can I change it?” If the answer is ‘YES’ then do it. If the answer is “NO” THEN LET IT GO!

It sounds simple and some of you may roll your eyes and moan. But I ask you to just try it on for a day… you might be surprised how much ‘lighter’ life can be…
